ROFFEY BURN BRIDGES
by Martin Read
For the second week running Roffey cruised to a seven wicket win, this time at relegation threatened Three Bridges, where the hosts elected to bat first. Although Australian overseas Ben Speake made 40 and evergreen skipper Danny Alderman 52, wickets fell at regular intervals after George Fleming had dismissed the openers. Alex Collins and Dan Smith took a wicket each then Rohit Jagota with 4-42 nipped out the tail. In reply Roffey were soon 24-2 and then
63-3 until Mike Norris and Rohit knocked off the runs in quick time, each scoring 67 not out, Rohit hitting 6 sixes. Earlier in the season Roffey beat Three Bridges at home, bowling them out for 108. All rounder Kuldeep Rawat told the District Post: “Bridges were too defensive but George Fleming kept it very tight (taking 3-45 off 21 overs). Rohit had another great game, just like last week – after taking wickets he batted well, smashing the ball all over the place and we finished very early. We’ve got a really big game coming up and we’re all very excited about that!” Roffey, now second in the table on 277 points with a game in hand are four behind Preston Nomads and return home on Saturday for a tough game against third placed East Grinstead (276).
