ROFFEY TOP AGAIN AFTER DEMOLISHING BEXHILL !
by Martin Read
|Roffey bowled out Bexhill for 100 to head the table on 321 points from a game less than their nearest rivals. Put in to bat at Polegrove, Roffey found the conditions testing and soon lost a wicket, but then the principal batsmen reached double figures. Despite Sussex left armer Ashar Zaidi probing with 4-40 off 20.4 overs, Kuldeep Rawat top scored with 39 and Mike Norris made 32, Roffey finishing on 173. On 34-1 Bexhill might have mounted a plausible challenge – until they lost three wickets for seven runs. Having tasted blood Roffey went for the kill, Leigh Harrison grabbing 5-39 and Dan Smith mopping up with 3-10, condemning Bexhill to substantial defeat in 36 tortuous overs. Having dismissed both openers, Kuldeep enjoyed another good all round game, telling the District Post: “The ball was moving around and the pitch was conducive to spin, so we were confident at tea time. We’re well placed now but have a massive weekend ahead.” Second in the table Preston Nomads – reigning champions – have 318 points after losing to Eastbourne, East Grinstead, third (311) beat relegation threatened Three Bridges and despite notching up their first win Hastings seem doomed to go down. But, Saturday (23rd) and Sunday could determine the destination of the title. First, in a mouth watering local derby, seeking revenge for their only defeat this season Roffey entertain Horsham, then, next day, host the Sussex Development XI.|
